1. Clean Your Bike

Before hitting the pavement or trails, start with a thorough cleaning. Dirt, grime, and dust from storage can build up on your frame, chain, and gears. Use warm, soapy water and a soft brush or sponge to remove debris. Consider using a degreaser to remove old lubricant and grime for the chain and drivetrain, then reapply a fresh coat of bike-specific chain lube.
2. Check Your Tires

Cold temperatures can cause tires to lose air pressure over time. Check your tire pressure with a gauge and inflate it to the recommended PSI, which is usually marked on the tire's sidewall. Also, inspect the tires for cracks, cuts, or excessive wear. If you notice any damage, it may be time for a replacement.
3. Inspect the Brakes

NOTE: Check out our YouTube channel for videos on how to adjust different types of brakes
Brakes are crucial for a safe ride. Squeeze the brake levers to ensure they engage smoothly and stop the bike effectively. Inspect the brake pads for wear; replace them if they're too thin or unevenly worn. Also, check that the brake cables aren't frayed or corroded and that the brake calipers are properly aligned.
4. Lubricate Moving Parts

To keep your ride smooth and efficient, apply lubricant to the chain, derailleur, and pivot points on the brakes and shifters. Avoid over-lubricating, as excess lube can attract dirt and create buildup. Wipe away any excess with a clean cloth.
5. Test Your Gears

Shifting should be smooth and responsive. If you notice skipping, hesitation, or difficulty changing gears, your derailleur may need adjusting. Tighten or loosen the barrel adjuster on the shifters to fine-tune the gear indexing, or take your bike to a professional for a full tune-up.
6. Tighten Bolts and Check Components

To ensure they're correctly tightened, go over all the bolts on your bike, including those on the handlebars, seat post, pedals, and wheels. Loose bolts can lead to instability and safety hazards, so use a torque wrench if necessary to avoid over-tightening.
7. Upgrade Your Accessories

Spring is the perfect time to upgrade your bike gear. Consider adding new lights, a bell, a phone mount, or a water bottle holder to enhance your riding experience. If you ride in areas with unpredictable weather, fenders can help keep you dry on wet roads.
8. Plan Your Rides
